Anna – A pupil with little English who secured a place in a boarding school

Anna was studying in year 3 in Primary School in China at the time her parents contacted us. She had visited Britain with her parents once before coming again for the purpose of selecting a suitable boarding school for her to attend. She enjoyed the lively atmosphere of British schools and asked if she could study in the UK.

Her English was very basic due to her age, as well as her limited learning experience. Her parents were very concerned that this level of English would be a hindrance to the school admission process. We assured her and her parents by offering them the following solutions to address this particular problem.

WSE Solutions: English Tutoring

Anna’s mum was very tempted to secure some intensive lessons for her in China. However, we managed to persuade her to utilise our UK based English tutor who conducted lessons via Skype. This private English tutor specialises in teaching young children/pupils who need a boost of confidence with their English speaking before coming to the UK. The tutor understands the requirements and expectations of UK boarding schools. The Chinese based English providers simply can’t fulfil those requirements.

We arranged intensive lessons prior to the web-based school interviews so Anna could get used to speaking to English native speakers. On top of that, we offered additional interview technique coaching focusing on her reactions when encountering possible difficulties in the future. From a social point of view, we felt that by talking about those, it helped Anna to visualise her future school life more realistically.

Anna received a skype interview from three schools. We managed to arrange the interview of the school she really wanted to attend as the last one. Anna became stronger and stronger with built up confidence and experience from mock interviews and school interviews. She smiled like an angel when she received an offer from her favourite school.

The school required her to take extra English support but that is understandable. We wish Anna the very best of luck!

    Cottesmore School
When it came to choosing a guardianship company, we had 2 recommendations (with competitive rates) from the school placement agency. However, after careful consideration, we went with Wisdom Spring Education on 9th August as I felt that they are more knowledgeable and experienced. Wisdom Spring provided all necessary preparation for Tiger straightaway whilst he was in China until Dr Wu accompanied him on his first day in his boarding school on 5th Sept.

    The Oratory Prep School
Dr Wu and her team are very responsive and answers my queries on time bar the time difference and we have regular discussions regarding my son’s progression. When my son first started the boarding school, it was a big shock to him and needed time to adjust and plenty of guidance. I was very grateful for the professional advice given to my son by Wisdom Spring which really helped him.

Zijian has been studying in the UK for nearly a year and we are very happy with his progress. At the beginning, we were very worried about him as he never lived away from home and English was not his strongest subject.
